Porto Alegre Restaurants and Dining

(Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil)

Porto Alegre contains an especially diverse selection of restaurants and eateries, many of which choose to specialise in seafood and Portuguese-influenced Brazilian cuisine. Local dining menus regularly feature dishes made with black beans, salt-dried meats and 'churrasco' (a grilled / barbecued meat).

For cheap eats in Porto Alegre, check out the Central Public Market close to the Mercado Modelo railway station, where you can enjoy a true Brazilian dining experience. Alternatively, pay a visit to the Churrascaria (steakhouse) Roda de Carreta restaurant on the Avenida Ipiranga, where an enormous choice of almost 20 different types of meat awaits. For rodizio-style dining (all you can eat), the Churrascaria Na Brasa on the Rua Ramiro Barcelos, between the Avenida Cristóvao Colombo and the Avenida Farrapos, will certainly make sure that you don't go home hungry.

Where to Eat

Many good dining venues are located within the Cidade Baixa neighbourhood, particularly around the Rua Joao Alfredo and the Praca Isabel a Catolica.

To the north, the Centro area of Porto Alegre comes with many more good restaurants, which are grouped around the Praca da Alfandego, the Praca da Matriz and the Praca XV de Novembro, being close to the banks of the Rio Guaiba. The Moinhos de Vento area is also known for its eateries and nightlife, and has a good mixture of bars and cafes, which soon become crowded at weekends.
